secret squisito Christmas Party wine list announced!

Saturday 11th December 2010/Christmas
Aperitivo: Wine – Sella & Mosca Torbato spumante brut Alghero, Sardegna. Outstanding and lesser known dry sparkling white from Sardinia. Clears the palate and prepares the throat for antipasti. My favourite!
Antipasti
Trio di bruschetta, fritte di Grana Padano, due arrosto delle mandorla
Awesome antipasti selection of roasted almonds 2 ways, bruschetta 3 ways, gorgeous Grana Padano crisps and stunning Puglian olives stuffed with anchovies and chilli

followed by
Fonduta di Zucca
Roasted pumpkin served fondue style with a difference!
served with
Rucola con pinoli e melograno
Jewel like pomegranate seeds with Tina’s winter leaves and toasted pine nuts

Wine – Pinot Grigio Bella Modella – Veneto proper IGT Pinot Grigio bianco, light, vibrant white to be appreciated for its zesty, citrus character and refreshing quality. A good choice to “open the stomach”Wine – a spicy and aromatic white to partner the sweetness of pumpkin and counterpoint the pepperiness of fresh Winter rocket so we have chosen our outstanding Frascati Superiore People, Poggio Le Volpi (hill of the wolf) 2009 instead of a more conventional riesling or sylvaner grape so you can discover that frasacati can be a fine wine that supermarket barrelwash!
Primi
Salsiccia Toscana con Raviolo
Handmade ravioli stuffed with Tuscan sausage and topped with sage butter

or Wild mushroom and ricotta ravioli topped with truffle butter

Wine – a real supertuscan from Castellina-in -Chianti with youth and good structure. Ideal with succulent and strong food
Secondi
Fagiano al Barolo
Denbigh Estate pheasant in Barolo with cavolo nero and polenta

or Olive crusted sea bass with confit of leeks

Wine – No, not Barolo again but Salice Salentino Riserva, Masseria Trajone 2006 from Puglia in southern Italy. Robust high quality red with strength and length. Salento is home to some of Italy’s finest reds so long may it remain undiscovered!
Dolci
Pere con Marsala e Mascarpone
Captivating caramelised Comice pears with vanilla mascarpone and Marsala

Wine – Passito Di Pantelleria D.O.C. Rallo, Pantelleria. A dessert wine from the beautiful island of Pantelleria. Legend says that Apollo fell in love with the goddess Tanit after she gave him a cup of passito instead of ambrosia!
